At just 15 years old, Linda’s life took a devastating turn when she was impregnated by her teacher, an act of exploitation that preyed on her vulnerability. Raised by her grandmother after her mother’s departure, Linda grew up without guidance, one of seven children from different fathers. Though sponsored by Children of Grace for school fees and books, she lacked basic necessities and emotional support.

While at boarding school, Linda was manipulated by a teacher who offered gifts and financial support in exchange for her trust. The abuse continued for years, culminating in an unplanned pregnancy during her third year of secondary school. Isolated and afraid, Linda was hidden in the teacher’s home until she bravely sought help from Children of Grace. Their intervention led to the teacher’s arrest but also to Linda’s rejection by her family and community.

Homeless and stigmatized, Linda found refuge through a friend’s mother and was later introduced to Wakisa Ministries by a woman named Faith. At Wakisa, Linda’s life began to transform. She received shelter, counselling, and perhaps most importantly a sense of dignity. Through mentorship and spiritual guidance, she learned life skills including tailoring, candle making, infant care, and catering. Linda discovered a passion for cooking and began to dream again.

Wakisa didn’t just shelter Linda—they restored her dignity and helped her dream again.

Despite setbacks, including temporary dismissal from Wakisa due to behavioral challenges, Linda matured and returned with renewed commitment. She gave birth to her daughter, Elizabeth, in March 2017, and just two weeks later, courageously resumed her education at Jinja SS. She completed Senior Four and began working to support her child, using her catering skills at a church café.

Her breakthrough came when she shared her story at a Wakisa Thanksgiving event. Moved by her resilience, donors supported her enrolment at YMCA, where she pursued a Certificate in Institutional Catering and Hotel Management. Linda completed her studies without a single retake and is now a qualified chef with papers to prove it.

Today, Linda stands as a testament to perseverance, mentorship, and the power of second chances. Wakisa Ministries didn’t just shelter her, they restored her future. With professional credentials and a heart full of gratitude, Linda is ready to serve the world, one dish at a time.
