By Beatrice Nakibuuka :     At 14, Grace Kyolaba, the first born and only girl in her family was defiled by a man whose face she says cannot recall clearly. One evening after school in November 2015, the Primary Seven pupil went to the market. That journey changed her life.

The head teacher told me I could not continue being in school. I had become a disgrace in the community. People did not understand that I was just defiled.”

An article in the daily monitor detailing the threat to the girl child of teenage pregnancy on which Ms Vivian Kityo the center director shared her views.

Wakisa Ministries won an ACT (Award for Community Transformation) award at the Transform conference hosted by Worship Harvest Church. Wakisa came second and got a cash prize of 2 million which went towards buying food and other necessities at the center. 

Pihinian conceived at the age of 16 which caused her caused her to drop out of School.

Phinian had dropped out of School in Primary Six because of lack of School Fees. At the time she lived with her part anal auntie who offered to take care of Phinian and her brother after the death of the Children’s parents. Phinian has three brothers of these one is physically handicapped. Two of Phinians brothers stayed with another relative in a distant district of their birth from where Phinian now lives.

Wakisa Ministries encourages young mother who have been sheltered at the center to continue with their education. This is because when the girls go back to school, they are able to improve their education levels and future employment or self employment opportunities. Their parenting skills have also been proven to improve alongside their life skills and living standards. 

It was a great day with the girls as visitors from Keron Kabugo foundation arrived.

We saw victory as a case concerning one of our girls at Wakisa (Aisha) who was defiled by her uncle and father at 14 years. The story has been highlighted in the Sunday Monitor of 8th May 2016 by Betty Ndagire.

Lost Innocence : After being defiled by her uncle, the 14-year-old girl thought she would get solace from her father but instead her situation became worse as he too regularly defile her until she conceived. She finally got justice when whe was taken to an NGO for help.
