Through the Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Wakisa provides temporary shelter, counselling and pre- and post-natal medical care to young mothers, ensuring they don’t have to face pregnancy alone. Through vocational skills training, young mothers are given the tools they need to support themselves after they leave the centre, enabling them to build a better, more hope-filled future.

Adolescent mothers in Uganda: Battling adversity to pursue education

Unfortunately, teenage pregnancy is rampant in Uganda, especially in impoverished areas like the North where many refugee communities reside. Experts attribute this trend to a lack of parental care, inadequate education, and insufficient preventative measures.

Vivian Kityo, Director of Wakisa Ministries Pregnancy Center, emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in addressing teenage pregnancy. She notes that schools cannot bear the sole responsibility of caring for children; parents must actively engage in their children's lives.

United States Government visit

British High Commissioner visit to the center

Her Excellency Kate Airey, British High Commissioner, and her colleagues paid a visit to Wakisa Ministries as part of their corporate social responsibility to the community. Their visit provided comfort and hope to the young ladies who were suffering crisis pregnancies. The crew actively participated in the center's activities, listening to the girls' tales, offering encouragement, and sharing their knowledge. Their participation demonstrated a dedication to the well-being of these young ladies, inspiring both the staff and the girls to continue their transforming work.

In The News: Teen mothers receive life skills from Absa Bank Uganda

Staff from Absa Bank Uganda today embarked on a journey to skill over 500 teenage mothers and women from the Central, West Nile and Albertine regions of the country in financial literacy and other skills necessary for their getting employed or starting businesses.
